Why Us?

About CSL

At Critical Systems Labs Inc., we combine the experience and diverse knowledge of our highly qualified team to solve problems and help our clients develop, deploy and operate safe systems and products. We invest in an active R&D program in search of better methods and tools for meeting challenges in managing safety risk for complex systems, including our flagship product, Socrates™, that has evolved from an in-house tool into a fully supported product for developing and maintaining assurance case arguments.

For many systems based on conventional technology, the functional safety concept is already well understood. However, for systems at the frontier of advanced technology, part of “innovating safely” begins with the development of a functional safety concept that combines a deep understanding of the underlying technology with detailed knowledge of the operational environment and procedures.

Our team of experts specialize in systems engineering, software engineering, computer science, safety engineering, formal (mathematical) methods, mechatronics, electrical and computer engineering, and physics. Advanced critical thinking abilities, technical diversity and collaborative skills allow CSL to tackle very complex problems at the forefront of advanced technology and across industry domains to come up with novel solutions. The success of our methods and our ability to work effectively with technical experts in other organizations is a key reason why many of our clients have repeatedly turned to CSL for help with their technical challenges.

Forward-looking thought leadership

CSL has participated in the development of international standards such as RTCA DO-178C, RTCA DO-333 and ISO 26262.
Our technical innovation is demonstrated by US Patents:
US8618922B2 – “Method and system for ensuring operation of limited-ability autonomous driving vehicles”
US9244460B2 – “Methods and apparatus for isolating safety functions in a motion control system for a vehicle”
US9740178B2 – “Primary controller designation in fault tolerant systems”
CSL collaborates with universities and high-profile research organizations in search of innovative methods for safety assurance such as using ML to predict changes in an assurance case.
CSL has a long history of presenting and publishing at international conferences. In 2023, CSL will be presenting at ISSC, Safecomp, ESREL, SysCon, ISCE, IWCT and at the CNS Annual Conference.
Alongside client projects, CSL has an active Research & Development program that pursues more efficient ways to solve very challenging problems.
